Spring

With motifs inspired by illustrations from the Introduction and Chapter One, this is a delightful, airy design, especially right for lifting the spirits after a long cold winter. The charming goldfinch is complimented by a butterfly and moth, all set amid spring flowers.

Summer

Autumn

Along the river bank autumn arrives in a blaze of colour, as Chapters Four and Five illustrate. The magnificent kingfisher perches beneath a yellow flag iris – possibly Helen’s most iconic image. With ivy, brambles and a hawking dragonfly, this is a timeless seasonal image.

Winter

Chapters Six and Seven ease the embroiderer toward the colder, longer nights of winter and the sharp, sparkling images which can represent this dramatic time of the year. A stoat in ermine – black tipped tail aquiver with anticipation – snatches a look at a frost stiffened cobweb. Snowdrops and aconites suggest that spring can never be far away!
